Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Ahh It's Fall At Last!

Posted on September 12, 2022

Now we are getting into my favorite time of the year to fish. The weather is cooling down, children are back in school, and hunting season has began which means my lake is not so crowded anymore, at least during the week. It also means big fish on topwaters! This cooler weather will trigger our fall topwater bite to begin. The big fish move into the shallows in the cool of the early morning to bask in the cooler water. They are not actively feeding on the surface in this pattern which I perfer since they don't attract the attention of every other angler within a mile to their location. You have to scout out the right spots and bling cast big topwaters and hope for the best. Once you find them though, its awesome action and some of the best fly fishing of the year. We have caught fish up to 20 lbs on the surface like this so it is a great opportunity to catch a monster on topwater. This bite will last until the first of November, during the week is the best time so be sure to make time to get on the water to experience it for yourself.

We typically cast topwaters for the first hour or so of the morning unless it is cloudy and rainy which can prolong the bite all day sometimes in nasty weather. After the first hour of daylight we will be switching over to slabs. Right now we are catching consistent daily limits using slabs. Slabs are easier for some because you don't have to cast, we just drop straight down from the side of the boat and jig it up and down on the bottom or reel it up real fast through the fish and drop it again. When we get into a feeding frenzy you will have a fish on before it will hit the bottom and everyone will be hooked up. This is the fastest method to put fish in the boat so it can get crazy and I usually have a pile of fish in the bottom of the boat because the fish are coming in the boat faster than I can take them off the hook and I don't have time to put them in the cooler. Couple that action with a morning topwater bite for big fish and you make for an experience you will never forget.

Right not my only weekend trips available until November are Sunday Sept. 18th, Oct. 16th, and Oct. 30th. If you have to have a weekend, you will want to jump on one of those dates asap. I'm a lot more accommodating during week and, as I said before it is the best time to fish. You can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or give me a call at (903)815-1609 and I'll get you setup. If you have any questions about our trips don't hesitate to ask. I'll be looking forward to fishing with you.
